Hello all,
In honor of Guy Fawkes night on 5th Nov we will have a British theme evening. Guy Fawkes attempted to blow up Houses of Parliament as a political statement http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Fawkes_Night. In addition on 4th Nov I celebrate my 10 year anniversary date of moving to London!
Shepherd's pie will be on the menu along with cheese & crackers.
Remember to VOTE on Tuesday! See you all Wednesday!

YUM!!! I'll perhaps work on a desert...or maybe cocktail? Which do you think?
I'll be there! I'm hoping to make a Leek Strudel, heh wish me luck :)
Hi all. I don't think that I'll be making it this week. But wear a Guy Fawkes mask for me :-)
I think I have some British chocolates and cookies so we should be good for dessert. Perhaps some British ale or cider would be good.
Great minds think alike! I was thinking that cider would be tasty! I'm on it for ciders...
I will be there with Joey again, I was thinking about doing a Bread Pudding, but may have to rethink that now. HHmmmmm...will have to investigate options!! :-)
I'll be there! Yeah Baby Yeah!! Pims and champagne? Magners cider? Warm ale? OK, maybe not the last one. ; )

Leek Strudel
Ingredients:
1 lb filo pastry
1 lb leeks
1 clove garlic (I used a couple)
3.5 oz rice
1/4 C veg oil
1/4 C hot water
little olive oil
salt & pepper
How To Make:
Preheat oven to 400F and butter large baking dish (or in my case use parchment paper 'cause who wants to do dishes!) Boil rice and cut fine leek. In a frying pan put little olive oil and fry leeks stirring frequently until tender, (about 10 minutes), and add chopped garlic (I minced) and fry 1 minute. Add rice, salt and pepper and mix well to combine. Let cool for a while. Meanwhile heat water and mix well with oil. Lay out sheet of filo pastry, sprinkle with water oil mixture and put another sheet of pastry on top. I used a total of 3 sheets per strudel. Spread some leek mixture, roll strudel and put in prepared baking dish. Repeat until all used. Brush strudel on top with oil water mixture and bake in preheated oven about 30 minutes. Serve warm but also good at room temperature. Can be frozen and later warmed in the microwave.
Next time I make this I would double the ingredients.
Glad everyone liked it! It was great to see everybody.
